HENSLEY, MELTON, MILTON posted by Jim Melton on Monday, December 9, 1996

Surnames: (MILTON MELTON) HENSLEY I am interested in the family of Fleming and Jane (MILTON MELTON) HENSLEY, who immigrated to St. Louis Co MO ca 1830, later settling in Joachim Twp of Jefferson Co. Fleming and Jane were originally from the Albemarle Co VA area, settling briefly in what is now Putnam Co WV. I understand they rafted down the Pocatalico River in (W)VA to the Kanawha, then to the Ohio. Their raft was destroyed near Louisville, but they eventually continued to MO by other means. I am particularly interested in corresponding with anyone with knowledge of Jane's parents or siblings. I am trying to confirm whether her parents were William and Jane MELTON, and whether her siblings included Elisha, Benjamin, and Mary (Polly) MELTON. Fleming HENSLEY was born about 1799 in VA, and Jane MILTON MELTON was born about 1801 in VA. They were both still living near Hillsboro at the time of the 1870 Census Thanks, Jim Melton
